Broken Peace - Tonypandy 1910-2010
In November 2010, Martyn took part in a very special project to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Tonypandy Riots of 1910. He was joined by students from Tonypandy Community College and Ysgol Gyfun Y Cymer , and they wrote songs and undertook a performance that helps to answer some of the questions about the events of 100 years ago……
"Who were the people from the valleys who struggled through unimaginable hardship with courage, strength, and typical Welsh humour?"
"What were their lives like during this struggle and how does this resonate with us today?"
This period of time within the Rhondda Valleys may have culminated in the riotous events of 1910, but the unique live music event was more than just remembering a single day… In was insight into the thoughts, emotions, fears and strengths of people of the Valleys their story is told in songs written especially for the event by Martyn.
This CD was released at the same time and features the songs written by Martyn and the students themselves and performed by them all. It's a testament to a very special event and a real tribute to the people of 100 years ago. |

The Bridgerow Sessions

This album contains a selection of songs that we have played together, in private or in public over the last three years. We have left out tracks previously recorded with Tom Robinson on the two Faith, Folk and Anarchy CDs and added a few brand new ones that have barely seen the light of day. Our intention was to try and convey the informality and excitement of two friends learning new songs from one another and then performing them together for the first time. Overdubs have been kept to a minimum and wherever possible we have used those first precious takes. We are indebted to Andy Coughlan at Bridgerow studios for creating the ideal setting for an informal song session and then having the technical and production skills with which to capture it. |
