Official Bootleg Series – Volume 1 – Live Cuts 92 – 08
For a while now I have wanted to start releasing live shows as official bootlegs. It is, after all, the essence of what I’m about. However it made sense to use the opportunity at the start to gather together some of the best moments of the journey so far. Some are proper mixed recordings and others off the desk CD material that sound g uys passed onto me after shows. There are of course many more ‘moments’ than I can place here but I think this chosen gathering will give a decent insight into how the gig developed and where it stands right now. From Greenbelt’s fields to a thousand shows that took me a long way from home and back, from solo in Denver to Suzanne Vega’s band backing me in Stoke on Cardiff Bay, from the Freight in California to the blessed Brook of Southampton, always six strings and a voice looking for a connection. Thank you for being on the other end.

Evolved
Evolved is probably Martyn`s most arresting and articulate album to date - a big, bold statement of where he is now, revisiting 15 of his most significant songs and performing and recording them in their evolved, finely honed forms.

This is a strong and stripped back "no hiding place" album that stops you in your tracks - acoustic one-takes with crystal clear vocals and skilful guitar and harmonica playing. Some songs shift along from their originals with added riffs and the most subtle of nuances; others twist off at thumping tangents, barely recognisable from the way they started life.

Vegas opens a new chapter in the remarkable career of Martyn Joseph. Take your seats for the rollercoaster ride of light and shade we have come to expect from the powerful Cardiff singer songwriter. Recorded at the Greenbelt Festival on August 25th 2006, MJGB06 is a passionate and edgy recording of MJ doing what he does best; taking a guitar and that ‘voice’ and connecting with a huge crowd in a way that makes it feel like he is playing in your front room. Ruffling a few feathers and smoothing others, there is a cross section of material.

Deep Blue
‘Deep Blue’ is Martyn’s sixteenth studio album. (with his live collections, collaborations with ‘FFA’ and ‘Best Of’ it comes to 22!). Those who have heard it before the release are talking about it being the man’s best yet. Whilst retaining the ‘Whoever It Was...’ feel of one man and a guitar slicing through your life and emotions, it takes that and adds a little more. Beautiful arrangements by Nigel Hopkins, and, on some tracks bass and drums from Andy Coughlan and Ryan Aston, add power to MJ’s ‘one take and don’t mess with it’ sound. With artwork by Juno award winning Canadian designer Michael Wrycraft, this will end up a classic.
